Driving comes with responsibility.
Unfortunately, some drivers take their responsibility more seriously than others. As one of the busiest countries in the world, the United States faces a dizzying amount of accidents each year, some of which result in serious injuries or even death. While driving responsibly may seem like common sense, the most common causes of car accidents are entirely preventable: distracted driving, drunk driving, and speeding.
The United States is one of the busiest countries regarding road traffic as there are around 218 million drivers holding a valid driver’s license. There are approximately 6 million car accidents each year in the United States and around 3 million people injured by car accidents annually. Of these 6 million annual car accidents, bicyclists accounted for 840 traffic deaths or 2.2% in 2016; these deaths most often occurred between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and in urban areas.
