Getting charged with a criminal offense is a stressful event in anyone’s life, but it doesn’t mean your life is over. Criminal defense lawyers are standing by and ready to help you reduce the charges or beat the case completely. This video gives you three things to look for when you’re hiring a criminal attorney.
The first thing to do is to assess the attorney’s competence. Make sure they are specialized in criminal defense law and have experience to back it up. Even the most rigorous law schools don’t compare to on-the-job experience. See if they have public records of their cases online to take a look at their track record, too. After all, if you have decades of experience it may not mean much if most of that is losing.
The next thing you need to do is to make sure the lawyer has a good work ethic. Being a lawyer means grinding all day and night, reading court documents over and over again to find something to get a client off. It is not for the faint of heart, so make sure the lawyer you hire isn’t aloof during consultations.
